SINGAPORE, April 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The cachet of owning the finest property in the centre of town is irresistible to the world's billionaires, who are increasingly looking for the ultra-luxurious bricks and mortar in the top cities. But where large-scale lateral square footage is hard to find, property developers are building up, with lavish new skyscrapers in some of the world's most prestigious neighborhoods.

"The ultra wealthy are property bulls; the average billionaire owns four homes worth a combined US$78 million, according to research from Wealth-X, intelligence firm and strategic partner of Billionaire," said Tara Loader Wilkinson, editor at large of Billionaire. "These top ten skyscrapers have the added draw of being trophy residences, usually designed by a top architect and interior design team."

Here, Billionaire.com examines the world's most lavish high-rise apartment blocks that money can buy. Billionaire ranked the developments according to the price of the penthouse and the average price per square foot. When the penthouse was not available the next top apartment was used instead.
